So I’m sure that I’m not the only wife out there who starts cringing when she watches her husband carve a chicken; and yet we have to smile and love the workmanship that he just produced even though it resembles the precision work of my 2 year old trying to stab peas onto a fork. Needless to say that I had to intervene and get help before his fingers ended up amongst the chicken pieces. The Kitchen Guru seemed the perfect solution. I booked myself and my husband for a private cooking class, which was the saving grace of my sanity and his already receding hairline. The requirements were simple - I wanted to go home knowing how to carve poultry (we chose a duck) and how to prepare it in a traditional Spanish style. And that is exactly what Rum showed us - in a very informative, fun and interactive way. He was very knowledgeable and keen to share his experience and wisdom. This was evident by all the little gems of information that he shared with us from his lifelong experience as a professional Chef. I am already looking forward to our next class now that I am watching my husband try to debone a rack of lamb ribs. Meanwhile my 2 year old has finished eating his peas.
What a fantastic way to spend a Sunday morning. Rum from The Kitchen Guru came to my friends home prepared with all the ingredients and recipes for a proper Israeli Brunch. Under Rums instructions, we chopped and blended and cooked the most amazing food from scratch – Tahini, Hummus, dressed olives, feta in a homemade chilli relish, baked aubergines like you’ve never had before and other dishes that I can’t quite remember the names of, but are all neatly printed in my Kitchen Guru recipe book. Sitting down at our beautifully prepared table on the patio and tasting all the amazing food we had learnt how to prepare with some wine to wash it down of course, made for a perfect Sunday afternoon. This was followed by Baklava dripping in honey and Arabic coffee with cardamom which finished off the meal perfectly. Thank you for an awesome day – I will be putting to practice all the great cooking tips and advice you so passionately taught us.
